Mary Jane Schoening of Owensville departed this life on Monday, July 31, 2017 at University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia. She had reached the age of 86 years, one month, and two days.

Mary Jane was born in New Haven, Missouri on June 29, 1931 a daughter to the late Henry and Nelda (Oberman) Kassebaum. She was united in marriage to Melvin Schoening on June 7, 1953 at New Haven. She belonged to Drake Hermann Auxiliary 4182, Farm Bureau, and was a member of Zoar Methodist Church at Drake. She will long be remembered for her friendliness and infectious smile, her love of dogs, and her famous cinnamon rolls.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Melvin; a daughter, Barbara Schneider; brother-in-law, Harold Schowe, and Tim Painter life partner of Robert Schoening.

Her survivors include two sons, Robert Schoening of Kansas City and Darwin Schoening and wife Lisa of Gerald; two daughters, Dot Schoening and partner Lisa Grosse of Hermann and Janiece Wieschhaus and husband Neal of St. Charles, Missouri; sister, Harriet Schowe of New Haven; son-in-law, Jerry Schneider of Hermann, special friends, Judy Lehmer of Owensville and Shirley Schoening of Hermann; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Saturday, August 5 at 10:30 AM at Gottenstroeter Funeral Home in Owensville with Rev. Beth Duckworth officiating. Burial will be at Zoar Methodist Cemetery in Drake. Visitation will be held Friday, August 4, 2017 from 5 to 8 PM at Gottenstroeter Funeral Home in Owensville.

Memorials may be given to Owensville Senior Center, Drake Methodist Cemetery, and Rosebud Methodist Church.
