Obituary
Jessie Louise (Hoffman) Horstmann, 84, of Owensville, Mo., died on Tuesday, December 5, 2017, from complications of Parkinson’s Disease. Born in Jefferson City, Mo., on February 4, 1933, Jessie was the daughter of Alice Mae (Mason) and John Wesley Hoffman and she was the youngest of two sisters and one brother. She graduated from Owensville High School in 1951 and received her bachelors degree from Southwest Missouri State College and her Masters in Education from Webster College. On August 21, 1954, she married Leeward C. Horstmann (Lee).

Jessie had a lifelong devotion to teaching and serving others. She was an award-winning teacher and was in the classroom over 31 years, mostly teaching third grade. She began her teaching career at Owensville Elementary and then taught at Weber, Ross and Claymont elementary schools in the Parkway School District. Her love of children was evident in all that she did. Jessie was unwavering in her Christian faith and that was a source of strength for her throughout her life. She could be counted on to get things done which is why she held many positions of leadership at her church, school, her children’s activities and the charitable projects she supported. Jessie was energized by music. She played the piano and the snare drum. Her beautiful soprano voice enhanced the church choir for over 50 years and singing with her grandchildren was a favorite activity. Traveling with Lee, her children and later in life with grandchildren was one of Jessie’s passions. She loved exploring our beautiful country and touring Europe. Jessie was an accomplished cook and a gracious host.

Jessie is survived by Lee, her husband of 63 years, and their three children and their spouses: daughter Pam Patsley and husband Gary of Dallas, Texas; son Paul Horstmann and wife Sue of St. Louis, Mo.; and son Philip Horstmann and wife Karen of Wilson, Wyoming. She was the beloved Grandma to Philip, Kyle, Katie, August and wife Katelyn, William, Mason, Henry, Samuel and John. Jessie was also loved by her two step-granddaughters and their families: Stephanie, husband Justin and daughter Irene; and Melissa, husband Tim and children Amelia, Luke and Matthew. She is also survived by her brother Sam Hoffman and his wife Ruth of Owensville along with many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call on Friday, December 15th, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Gottenstroeter Funeral Home, 108 South 2nd St, Owensville, Mo. A service celebrating Jessie’s life will be held on Saturday, December 16th, at 10:30 am at Gottenstroeter Funeral Home followed by a graveside ceremony and then a luncheon at the Owensville Lion’s Club.
