Virginia May Winters of Owensville departed this life on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Evelyn's House in Creve Coeur, MO. She had reached the age of 83 years six months, and 11 days.

Virginia was born on May 28, 1934, in DuQuoin, Illinois a daughter to Henry and Mabel (Sronce) Clark. She married Dewey Winters in Mississippi on July 11, 1953 and they returned to the Strain community to make their home. She helped run their small farm in Strain while raising her three daughters. She always enjoyed riding horses in her younger days and horses and ponies could always be found on the farm. She most especially loved having dogs as house pets. She was a 4-H leader for many years and loved to sew clothing for her daughters. When she was four years old, she and her mother traveled from DuQuoin, IL to San Francisco, CA where they lived until shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor at which time they returned to the mid-west area.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Mabel Clark, and her step-father, Jerome Gable; two brothers, JW (Joe) Clark and Leroy Clark; a sister, Catherine Clark; a half-brother, Willy Clark; and a half-sister, Edith Clark.

She is survived by a sister, Roxie Reynolds from Illinois; a half-sister, Ginny Pearl Knapp and a half-brother, Henry Clark Jr. both of DuQuoin, IL; three daughters, Rosalie and Mike Kocinski of Owensville, Linda and Jim Busch of Berger, MO, and Tina and Gary Wilson of Leslie, MO; six grandchildren, Heather Kocinski-Wildebrandt and husband Doug of St. James, MO, Amber Patton and husband Brad of High Ridge, MO, Wendi Gale and husband Ray of New Haven, Gabe Busch and wife Jessica of Stony Hill, MO, Casey Lairmore and husband Dave of Fenton, MO, Corey Wilson and wife Jodie Lynn of Bland,16 great-grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and was excited about the birth of her first great-great-grandchild in May of 2018.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 13 at 11 AM at Gottenstroeter Funeral Home in Owensville with Reverend Terry Knight officiating. Burial will be at Schmidt Cemetery in Strain, MO. Visitation will precede the funeral on December 13 from 9 to 11 AM. Memorials may be given to the Humane Society or an animal shelter of your choice.
