Lawrence Albert Picker, age 85, of Holts Summits, Mo., passed away Monday, January 22, 2018, at Heisinger Bluffs in Jefferson City.
Lawrence was born on February 28, 1932, in Red Bird to Louis Henry and Ruth May (Licklider) Picker. On June 8, 1958, he was united in marriage at Leduc Methodist Church to Jean Darlene McDaniel. Lawrence served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954. He received his Bachelors in Agriculture from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1958. He retired from the Missouri Department of Transportation in 1993 after 35 years of service.
In retirement he spent his time traveling, visiting family and friends, going to Mizzou football games, watching his granddaughters play softball and basketball and playing music and going to bluegrass festivals.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Ruth Picker; wife, Jean Picker on October 30, 2013; brother, Melvin Picker; brothers-in-law, Edward Scheel Jr., Raymond Michael and Eugene Houseman.
He is survived by his children, Keith Picker and wife Charlene of Port Orchard, Wash., and Karen Howard and husband Ricky of Fulton; grandchildren, Christina Picker, Amanda Howard and Taylor Howard; sister, Norma Thomas and husband Gerald of St. Charles; sister-in-law, Susan Picker of Simpsonville, S.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, January 27 at 10:30 a.m. at Gottenstroeter Chapel in Owensville with Rev. Lindsay Walters officiating. Burial will be in Leduc Methodist Cemetery near Red Bird.
Visitation will be on Friday, January 26 from 4-8 p.m. at the Chapel in Owensville.
