Larry Smith, 77, of Owensville Mo., formerly of Gerald, died on Thursday, March 1, 2018, at his home.
He was born on May 24, 1940, to William Henry Adam and Elsie Margaret (Boeck )Smith in St. Louis.
He was united in marriage to Luella Mae Goettling June 27, 1964, at Zion Lutheran Church in Owensville.
Larry served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1961 as a vehicle and tank mechanic and was on reserves until June 24, 1964. He was a maintenance electrician last working and retiring from Hostess Bakery in St. Louis. As his sons grew he was active in the Cub, Boy and Explorer Scouts of Troop 448 in Gerald. He was also active in church activities serving as a Deacon, Session Member, Clerk of Session and Church Commissioner to Presbytery meetings and in a Youth group of Boeuff Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and parents-in-law; sisters, Ruth Stiritz and husband Harold, and Loretta Smith; brothers, Wilber Smith and wife Charlotte, and Sonny Smith who died in infancy. daughter-in-law, Jana Shore Smith; brothers-in-law, Zeno Angell, Charles Brandhorst, Roy Angell, Herbert H Goettling, Jr. and Harvey Allen Snodgrass; granddaughter, Emily Mae Huggins; and several nephews, nieces, cousins and a great-nephew.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Luella of the home; siblings, William Smith and wife Bernice; sisters, Jeannie Angell and Anna Mae Brandhorst Angell all of Gerald; sons, Jeffrey Smith and wife Kim of Owensville, James Smith and wife Becky of Gerald; daughters, Sara Grube and husband Kevin of Gerald and Linda Huggins and husband Jeff of Iowa; grandchildren, Tony Grube and wife Kim, Heather Kerr and husband Gabe, Jo Erika and Jessie Smith, Grant and Garrett Wood, Becky Huggins, Laura and Jason Bigley, Regina Grube, J.D. Smith and Wyatt Smith; great-grandchildren, Savanna and AJ Grube, JJ and Gracie Bigley and JosieKaye Kohler; sister-in-law, Verna Snodgrass of Owensville; and many great and great, great nieces and nephews.
By his request, his remains were cremated and a Celebration of Life with Rev. Ron Koppelmann Jr. officiating will be held at Gottenstroeter Chapel in Gerald on Sat., March 10 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be private at a later date.
Visitation will be at the Chapel from 10-11 a.m.
Luncheon will follow at Boeuff Presbyterian Church.
