Samuel LaRue Blackwell, 19, of Owensville, Mo., died on Saturday, May 19, 2018, at Mercy Hospital in Creve Coeur.
He was born on May 2, 1999, to Steve and Cappie (Poteat) Blackwell at Rolla.
Sam was a graduate of Owensville High School in 2017 where he was involved in FFA, Cross Country and Track Team, lettering in both sports. He was a member of Bem 4-H and Gasconade County Swine Team. He had finished his freshman year at Southern Illinois University - Carbondale where he belonged to Phi Kappa Tau;Beta Chi Chapter Fraternity and was the Pledge Class President. He was awarded New Member of the Spring Semester Award. Sam also had a strong passion for cars and he loved spending time with friends.
Sam saved the lives of three people by donating his heart valves and kidneys.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, LaRue Blackwell and maternal grandfather, Jere Poteat.
He is survived by his parents, Steve and Cappie Blackwell of Owensville; siblings, Abbey Blackwell of Carbondale, Ill., and Ben Blackwell of Owensville; paternal grandmother, Betty Blackwell of Owensville; maternal grandmother, Carol Poteat of Jefferson city; aunts, Connie Blackwell of Rosebud and Laura Poteat of San Diego, Calif.; cousins, Tonia and Nick Hazel and children Kyah and Tristyn all of Owensville; and great uncle Bob Blackwell and wife Judy of Owensville; and great aunt, Arletta Smith of Olathe, Kan.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 23 from 4-8 p.m. at Gottenstroeter Chapel in Owensville.
Burial services will be private at Oak Grove Cemetery at St. James with Pastor Tim Herrera officiating.
