Richard Fred Raaf of Gerald, departed this life on Sunday, September 18, 2016 at Cape Girardeau Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. He had reached the age of 85 years, five months, and 27 days.

Richard was born on March 21, 1931, a son to the late William Henry and Frieda (Merk) Raaf in Gerald. He served his country in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the American Legion. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in Animal Husbandry from the University of Missouri in Columbia. He had an avid passion for his dairy farm and devoted his life to it. He was a life long member of St. Paul's UCC Church, and was baptized there May 10, 1931 and confirmed on Pentecost Sunday, May 20, 1945.

He was preceded in death by his parents Frieda and William Raaf; one sister, Anna Mae Ballard, and two brothers, Herbert Raaf, and William Raaf, Jr.

He is survived by one sister, Marilyn Schmidt and husband Landon of Lee's Summit, Mo., and sister-in-law, Lavern Raaf of Gerald, and many loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be Friday, September 23, at 3:00 PM at St. Paul's UCC Church in Gerald with Pastor Glenn Hollander officiating. Visitation will precede the funeral at 1:00 PM. There will be a private burial service at St. Paul's UCC Cemetery at a later date.
