Obituary
John Carpenter, 78, Gerald, Mo., passed away Thurs., Dec. 17, 2020 at Mercy Hospital in Washington, Mo.

John was born Dec. 16, 1942, to Roy and Helen (Austin) Carpenter in Glen Falls, N.Y.

John was first married to Carol Vanauker on Sept. 7, 1962 in New Mexico; then, married Margaret Schlittler on Aug. 26, 2011 in Union, Mo.

He retired from the United States Navy as Senior Chief. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and reading.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Helen Carpenter; his first wife, Carol Vanauker; two brothers, Preston and Paul Carpenter; and a grandchild, Macayla Carpenter.

His survivors include his wife, Margaret Schlittler; daughter, Tonya Boehmer and husband Craig of New Haven, Mo.; son, John A. Carpenter of Washington; brothers, Mike Carpenter of Tyler, Texas; Tom Carpenter and wife Denise of Tyler, Texas, and Dave Carpenter of Spokane, Wash.; sisters, Pat Webber of Tyler, Texas, Mary Scarborough of Mabank, Texas, and Gloria Quick and husband Fred of Sholow, Ariz.; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild on the way. He was an uncle and great-uncle to many.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Tues., Dec. 22nd at Gottenstroeter Funeral Home Chapel in Gerald with Rev. Ron Koppelmann officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. on Mon., Dec. 21st at Gottenstroeter Funeral Home Chapel in Gerald. Burial will be at Boeuff Presbyterian Cemetery at Gerald with full military honors.

Memorials may be given to Community Outreach of Gerald.

Visitation and services are open to the public; however, due to COVID-19 virus concerns, please practice social distancing. Masks are mandatory.
