Obituary

Mattie Sue Hanners of Owensville, Missouri passes away Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at the age of 90 years, 6 months and 12 days. She was born January 2, 1932 in Hornersville, Missouri to John William Hanners and Mary Evangeline Angel Hanners.

Mattie relocated to the Owensville area after retiring from Mercantile Trust Company
over thirty years previously. She was active with the Owensville Senior Citizens center and volunteering for other organizations. Mattie enjoyed reading, cooking, traveling, spending time with friends and family and was a lifelong St Louis Cardinal fan.

She will be sadly missed by her four nephews, Mike Chipman and wife Barbara of Pensacola FL, Terry Chipman of Kanbanlan, Philippines, Randy Chipman and wife Judy of Sierra Vista, AZ and Patrick Chipman and wife Yaxi of San Antonio, TX., five great nephews, two great nieces and other relatives and friends. Special friends were Bill and Linda Honse of Owensville, MO.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Mary Lou Hanners Chipman, and one brother, Paul Dean Hanners, and two brothers Charles Edwin Hanners and Jessie Hanners who both died in their infancy. Mattie was previously married to Raymond Kritlow and David Early, both who predeceased her in death.

Mattie graduated from the Missouri School for the Deaf in 1951 and will be remembered for her fierce independence and willingness to continue learning. She has donated her body to the Washington University School of Medicine.
