Robert “Bob” Oscar Friedel, 69, of Beaufort, Mo., passed away Saturday, Nov. 12, 2022, at his residence.

He was born Nov. 30, 1952, to Robert John and Bettyjean (Danz) Friedel in St. Louis.

He was united in marriage to Noreen Bieker June 22, 1974, at Our Lady of Lourdes in Washington, Mo.

Whatever Bob set his mind to accomplish, he succeeded. He always had a love for mules and raised many mule colts born on his farm. His love for guns from an early age flourished into gunsmithing, building muzzle loader rifles, and reproducing the Gemmer trapdoor rifle. His last unfinished project was reproducing the Gove rifle, which nobody has reproduced to his knowledge. He enjoyed working with leather and making holsters as gifts to his friends. Re-enacting the early Eastern frontier era, Western mountain man era and cowboys led into modeling jobs. Several artists around America have Bob's image in their paintings. Bob had a life-long quest to find out the truth of Jesse James' death. As a child he thought it was a bogus story. He did many years of research and finally had enough evidence to prove that Jesse James did not die in 1882. He published a book supporting his research. His greatest love was his family. He hung onto life to hear the cry of his second grandchild. The next day he departed this life to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Bettyjean Friedel and sister-in-law, Patricia Friedel.

His survivors include his wife, Noreen Friedel of the home; sons, Robert Brian Friedel and wife Elizabeth and Jacob Arthur Friedel and wife Amber both of Union; brother, Brian “Pete” Friedel of Washington; and two grandchildren, Blake Friedel and Carter Friedel.

Visitation will be Wednesday, Nov. 16, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Gottenstroeter Funeral Home in Gerald.

Funeral services will be Thursday, Nov. 17, at 10:30 a.m. at Gottenstroeter Funeral Home in Gerald with Rev. Ron Koppelmann officiating. Burial will be at St. Paul's Cemetery in Gerald.

Memorials may be given to St. Paul's United Church of Christ Women's Fellowship.
