Sandra “Sandy” Karen Stroupe, 60, of Owensville, Mo., passed away peacefully in her home on September 11, 2020, surrounded by family. She battled Inflammatory Breast Cancer for nearly eight years, enduring many treatments to have more time with her family. Her loving husband Roy, was her caregiver and partner through the entire journey. Sandy cared for him during his fight with cancer 20 years earlier. They were truly partners in everything.
Born on September 13th, 1959, in Kirkwood, Sandy was the sixth child of John and Katie Wood. John was a World War II Veteran and belonged to the Pipefitter’s Union, and Katie was a homemaker and worked at Sears. Katie grew up in Germany and they met and fell in love during the war, and Katie came home with him to grow their family. Sandy joined four older sisters and one older brother: Anita Dozier, Steve (Cindy) Wood, Dolores Jeffries, Elaine Ellison, and Jackie (Mike) Morales. Sandy was and forever would be Katie’s “baby”. True to the nature of their relationship, even in death they didn’t spend much time apart. Katie passed just 22 days earlier.
Sandy spent her childhood in the community of Times Beach, and went to school in Eureka, Mo. She graduated from Washington High School in 1977. Soon after graduating, she worked at Hazel (later Atapco) in Washington and met the love of her life and husband of 38 years, Roy Lee Stroupe. They were united in marriage in Eureka on September 12th, 1981. They quickly started a family, and were devoted and caring parents to Matthew Thomas Stroupe (Miranda) and Jessica Nicole Bax (Brian).
Sandy loved to be a grandmother. She had five granddaughters – Claire Fern, Macy Irene, Hannah Sandra and Ryan Rita Bax, and baby girl Stroupe due October 7th. She also had one grandson, Micah Thomas Stroupe. One of her favorite things to do was shop, especially for clothes for the grandkids.
Sandy enjoyed spending time with her co-workers, making many wonderful friends over the years as a Mary Kay consultant, and working at Lost Valley Lake Resort, First Bank call center in Hermann, and Department of Health and Senior Services.
She and Roy were dedicated servants at First Baptist Church in Gerald, Mo. Sandy served as the church secretary/treasurer for 17 years and helped in the nursery and kitchen. Sandy liked to spend her free time growing beautiful flowers around the family home/farm in Drake, watching Hallmark movies, making her famous chocolate chip cookies and chocolate pie, finding new kitchen gadgets or seasonal home decor and shopping for jewelry and shoes.
Her most profound character traits were her gentle spirit and truly kind nature. She didn’t have a mean bone in her body and was always thinking of something to do for others. She was a generous and loving person.
Sandy will be missed dearly by her husband, children and grandchildren, and all of her siblings. She joins her mom and dad, and mother and father-in-law, Thomas and Fern Stroupe, in heaven.
Services will be private. Memorials requested to The Ridge Church of Gerald. Expressions of sympathy may be mailed to the family at: 2190 Winter Road, Owensville, MO 65066.
